Controller

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Be a part of a fast paced, energetic, start-up environment as this role reports directly to the Director of Finance. The controller will manage a small dedicated team that will be tasked with carrying out various responsibilities of the Finance / Accounting Department. The Controller and their team is responsible for the day-to-day tasks related to A/P, A/R; CC, Bank and Payroll reconciling through G/L, and assistance in preparation of Financial Statements. Manages A/P Clerks as well as working directly with hospitality group’s principals and personnel.

WHAT YOU’LL DO EVERY DAY:

  • Reconcile complex general ledger accounts monthly including research and resolution of discrepancies
  • Reconcile sub-ledgers to GL as required 
  • Provide oversight to young and energetic finance/accounting team
  • Maintain and enhance financial systems and reporting mechanisms
  • Assist Director of Finance in monthly budgeting, forecasting and reporting metrics
  • Prepare and oversee monthly journal entries and supporting schedules 
  • Participate in month end, quarter end and year end closings
  • Communicate with team members from other functional areas / divisions as well as external sources
  • Comply with Internal Controls and best practices, and assist in other accounting projects as requested
  • Provide information for auditors and various other special projects

WHAT YOUR BACKGROUND LOOKS LIKE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other business related field.
  • 3-7 years of accounting experience or related field  
  • CPA is preferred 
  • Hospitality/Restaurant accounting experience highly preferred
  • Understands and is able to apply technical accounting concepts
  • Creative, Organized and very detail oriented
  • Possess a strong systems background - experience with ERP ledgers systems is preferred (Oracle, SAP, M3)
  • Flexible, able to work independently and have worked in a large corporate environment
  • Very Proficient in Excel
  • Thrives in a fast pace, constantly changing environment
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Stellar oral and written communication skills
